If the service book is missing it may have service history and your local SAAB dealer may be able to help locate this information. It is also advisable to have a potential purchase HPI checked which will alert you if the car has been stolen, written off, or is subject to an outstanding finance agreement. Unlike the 900 launched in 1994, which went through a steep development curve, the 9-5 was well tried and tested before it was launced on the European market so early models are still a good buy.
